Creator of CBC radio theme songs and recipient of a prestigious Peabody award, Carol Sokoloff has entertained audiences at clubs and festivals including Victoria Jazz Festival, Vancouver Island Folk Festival and Duncan’s 39 days of July. Also a published author of poetry and children’s books, she leads the ensemble Trio Espresso featured on her debut CD ‘Let Go!’ (Wild Song).

Growing up in a musical family in Toronto, Carol absorbed influences from Broadway to folk and jazz. She studied piano from age four, sang three-part harmony with her sisters, picking up guitar as a teen and writing songs by age 14.
Traveling to Manhattan for a CBC documentary on Harold Arlen, Carol became close to the reclusive composer and met other legends of the American songbook. Their influence and that of Canada’s stellar songwriters has inspired a musical journey of varied paths. With her stirring voice and memorable songs Carol invokes music’s power to connect, inspire and heal with every performance.

Recently the journey has taken Carol to Nashville where she recorded an album of engaging originals with Music City’s finest session players. Her second album, ’Change in the Weather,’ is nearing completion and marks a change in direction from jazz back to a guitar-based Roots sound and from the west coast to the heart of Tennessee.

Carol Sokoloff is a versatile singer-songwriter (composer, lyricist, musician, arranger) who performs on vocals, piano and guitar in pop, folk, jazz, country, New Age and children’s genres. In Spring 2025 she’ll release ‘Change in the Weather’ an album of engaging originals recorded in Nashville. Her previous jazz CD, ‘Let Go’ featured both standards and originals in the style of the standards.
She is a sought after performer who has played both intimate clubs and larger festivals including Victoria Jazz Festival and 39 Days of Julyin Duncan. BC. Carol’s warm voice and moving, affirmative songs inspire audiences of all ages. She has created theme songs for CBC radio network and will be teaching songwriting at the University of Victoria (Continuing Studies).
Called a ‘multi-talented creative force’ by the Victoria News, Carol is also a poet, author, editor and writing instructor who has published as Carol Ann Sokoloff, several books including children’s books (Colours Everywhere You Go), poetry (A Light Unbroken, Eternal Lake O’Hara), and non-fiction (New Sufi Songs & Dances) She will this Spring release Kayla’s Song a middle grade novel about a girl who loves to sing.
She is married to poet and publisher Richard Olafson of Ekstasis Editions . She lives in an old house filled with books and instruments in the heart of Victoria.
